Machined Aluminum Forging

Machined Aluminum Forging

  • Not susceptible to voids, cold pour problems, porosity or shrinkage.
  • Consistent ductility, known yields, and increased strength due to grain development.
  • Increased product strength and a high level of material predictability due to grain orientation.
  • Significantly reduces machining hours saving time and money.

SHORT INFO ABOUT  THIS

Features

Metals: Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel, Brass, Copper, Magnesium

Tolerances: +/- 0.030” (for conventional forgings), to +/-.015” (for precision – near net forgings)

Surface Finish:

  • RA:25-1.6 Ra um, 1000-63 Ra uin
  • RMS: 64.3 - 1000 RMS

Minimum Draft Angle:

The larger the draft angle, the better it will facilitate the metal forging's removal from the die. However, some precision forging operations produce a forged part with no draft angle required.

Forging Molding Process

Forging begins with a cast ingot, known as a billet or workpiece, which is heated up to about 75% of its melting temperature, then forged between dies to the desired shape and size through hammering, upsetting, pressing and so forth. The metal takes the shape of the dies and is released. During this forging process, the coarse-grain structure is broken up and replaced by finer grains, achieved through the size reduction of the ingot. Usually, the product is additionally heat treated after it is hot forged.

  • Minimum Draft Angle:

The larger the draft angle, the better it will facilitate the metal forging's removal from the die. However, some precision forging operations produce a forged part with no draft angle required.
